Item 12285

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."

This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).

Thusjug features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Brushed Cobalt Chrysanthemum. The floral sports 5 leaves and a blossom with 14 petals.  Stands 12 1/4" tall.

Fair Condition.  The handle is replaced and painted black (why I do not know!) and there is staining from use.  No chips, hairlines, or cracks.
