    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "C. Crolius, New York."  

     

    This jug is the work of Clarkson Crolius Senior who made pottery in New York City from 1800 to 1838 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 62).

     

    This beauty features an Early Ovoid Shape, Flared rim, Applied Handles, Pottery Stamp, and a Freehand Floral Garland on Both Sides. Stands 11 1/2" tall 

     

    Good Condition.  A 3/4" chip on the rim above the left handle, and chips around the footer, a Y-shaped hairline on the back at the bottom that wraps under as a small y-shaped hairline (closeup), and some staining from use.  No restoration.
