Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and White Butter Crock.
It was made by the Western Stoneware Company of Monmouth, Illinois around 1920 (Jim Martin and Bette Cooper, Monmouth-Western Stoneware, p. 85).
This butter came in 1 to 5 pound sizes. This one is the 3 pound as indicated by the "3" impressed on the bottom of both the base and lid.
The beauty has a Label Composed of a Fancy Cartouche Hosting "Butter" Inside. Diffused blue coloration. Retains its original lid and bail handle Stands 5 1/2" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. A 1/2" narrow chip on the back bottom in the making.
