Item 12804
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 3 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "G. Benton & L. Stewart, Hartford."
This is the work of two old sea captains, G. Benton and L. Stewart, who made pottery in the old Cross pottery in Hartford, Connecticut from 1815-1822 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 60-61).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form, Reeded Spout, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Additional Cobalt on the Handle Terminals. Stands 17 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. Staining from use and chips around the footer. No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Stone pings in the making.
I should hope to look so good when I am 200 years old! 😁
