Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Storage Jar made and stamped by "A. E. Smith & Sons, Manufacturers, 38 Peck Slip, N.Y."
This is the mark of Asa Smith, his son Asa, and Howard Hobart who worked in Norwalk, Connecticut from about 1849 to the early 1860's, and in the latter part of that period sold stoneware in New York City with this mark (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 58-60).
This beauty features the Storage Jar Form with Recessed Rim for a Lid, the Pottery Stamp, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Tulip with 10 Leaves and a Blossom with 9 Petals. Stands 14 1/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Two stone pings in the making.
