Item 9604
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar from the Bluebird Potters of Muskingum County and surrounding counties of Ohio.
My best attribution would be to John Batson (1823-1901) who potted in Hopewell Township of Perry County, Ohio around 1850-1880. The shape and capacity stamp matchup (James L. Murphy's Checklist of 19th Century Bluebird Potters and Potteries in Musgingum County, Ohio, Edited by Jeff Carskadden and Richard Gartley, pp. 100-101).
Circa 1870, this beauty features an Ovoid Form, Tooled Rim with Deep Groove for Use in Tying a Cloth or Waxed Paper Cover Over the Top, and a Triple Brushed Cobalt Floral Decoration. Stands 11 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 3/8" chip inside the rim, and two 1/2" chips on the underside at the edge. No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A recess on the shoulder in the back in the making.
