Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic Four Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "J. B. Maxfield, Milwaukee." 
 
This is the work John B. Maxfield who worked Milwaukee from 1854-1858, sometimes with his brother Amos (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 147). 
 
This beauty features a Tall and Narrow Form with a Tooled and Rounded Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip in Vibrant Cobalt.  The Tulip has 8 leaves and a blossom with 5 petals.  Stands 16 1/2" tall.  
 
Very Good Condition.  Wear around the inner lid-seating ring, a 1 1/4" chip outside the rim and back of the left handle, and some scattered staining from use.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
