Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 2 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "J. B. Maxfield, Milwaukee." 
 
This is the work John B. Maxfield who worked Milwaukee from 1854-1858, sometimes with his brother Amos (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 147). 
 
This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Clear Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Brushed Tulip in Vibrant Cobalt.  The Tulip has 7 leaves and a blossom with 5 petals.  Stands 13" tall.  
 
Excellent Condition.  A narrow 3/4" chip on top of the spout and a 1/4" on the side of the spout.  Some staining from use.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
