Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic Three Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped front and back by "J. B. Maxfield, Milwaukee."

 

This is the work John B. Maxfield who worked Milwaukee from 1854-1858, sometimes with his brother Amos (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 147).

 

This beauty features a Tall and Narrow Form with a Tooled and Rounded Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Two Pottery Stamps, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip in Vibrant Cobalt.  The Tulip has 8 leaves and a blossom with 5 petals.  Stands 14 1/2" tall.  

 

Excellent Condition.  Some surface wear.  That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.   

 

A very early piece of Wisconsin pottery that is both beautiful and near perfect!
