Item 12461
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous Blue and White Stoneware Spongeware Pitcher in the Girl and Dog Pattern.
It was made by the Logan Pottery of Logan, Ohio.
As you know, this pitcher is rare in the more typical blue and white, but even rarer in the spongeware. Taylor and Lowrance in Salt Glaze Stoneware call the spongeware version "one degree beyond extremely rare" (p. 42).
Dating to the early 20th century, this beauty features an Oval Medallion on Each Side that Hosts a Young Girl on the Right Feeding Her Dog on the Left as He Rears up on His Hind Legs. The sponging is structured in 5 horizontal rows of 7 rectangular spongings. The blue is a very unusual and pleasant shade. Stands 9" tall.
Comes from my private collection.
