Item 11299
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jar from Baltimore, Maryland.
The jar's form and decoration make a very likely attribution to David Parr who made stoneware in Baltimore, Maryland from 1815 to 1855 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 98).
Dating around 1830, this beauty features a Large Form, Semi-Ovoid Shape, Tall and Flared Rim, and Six Longstem Tulips. Profuse Freehand Cobalt Decoration all Around! Additional cobalt accents at the handle terminals. All the cobalt is strong and shiny on a light gray clay for maximum contrast. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Traces of water glass staining inside, two chips on the outside of the rim (1/4", 1"), a 1/2" chip on one handle, and four narrow 1/2" chips on the bottom edge. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
