Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug stamped "Binghamton, N.Y."
This is the mark of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Utica Pottery, Utica, New York. He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Cobalt Orchid Executed with a Slip Cup. The orchid sports 11 leaves and a center blossom. Stands 11" tall.
Fair Condition. A hairline on the spout (closeup), a 3/8" chip on the right side of the spout and base edge. No cracks, stains, or restoration. Bubbling in the cobalt in the making.
