Item 7659
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 3 Gallon Jug made for the Merchant, "John Coyne, Utica, N.Y."
It was made and stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y." This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
This beauty features the Larger 3 Gallon Size, Pottery Stamp on the Shoulder, and Surprising Graphics with the Merchant Name in a Patriotic Shield Topped with a Star in a Wreath! Bold cobalt throughout. Stands 15" tall.
Excellent Conditon. Three small chips on the spout (3/16" to 3/8"), a 1/2" chip on the bottom tip of the handle, a 1/4" chip on the base, and some very light staining. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
I have seen only one other one like this.
