Item 11001
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and an Unusually Fancy Floral Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup Using Dark and Shiny Cobalt. This is not a Norton floral that I have ever seen before. It centers on a flower within a flower and culminates on top with a dotted flower. The detail is prolific and the cobalt profuse. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1" chip on left side at the bottom. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
