Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeous 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin Edward Norton who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports a Nice Small Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Superb Floral Bouquet Executed with a Slip Cup in Rich Cobalt. Lots of Dots! Stands 10 1/2" tall.
Good Condition with Professional Restoration. Minor nibbles around the inner seating ring for a lid, and a 3/8" sliver chip on the left handle and two 1/4" sliver chips on the right handle. Professional restoration for a drilled hole in the bottom and a line across the bottom that came up 4" on the back (closeup). No rim or base chips or stains.
