Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous Porcelain Humidor made and stamped by Schafer and Vater. Their mark is an R within a Star topped by a Crown. This one is also dated 1896.
This company was started by Gustav Schafer and Guenther Vater in 1890 in Thuringo, Germany. Their porcelain was made from local clay high in kaolin which gave their pieces a fine, velvety feel as is characteristic of this one.
This beauty features a Fancy Top and Bottom Border with a Cartouche of a Woman Serving Tea on one Side and a a Woman Holding a Cone of Flowers on the Other. A Young Girl and her Cat Grace the Lid. The lid has a recess for a sponge (still in it) to moisten to keep the contents moist. Pink luster with applied gold trim finish. Fine detail. Stands 6 1/2" tall.
