Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 4 Gallon Jar made by "Knox, Haught & Co., Shinnston, W.VA."  
 
Circa 1875, this beauty is Decorated Top to Bottom.  From the top down is a straight stripe accenting the rim, two squiggle stripes on the shoulder, a row of five 5-pointed and dotted stars, another squiggle stripe, an emblem, the company name, another emblem and a freehand capacity number flaned by dashes.  All the decoration is complete, covering the entire front with cobalt.  Stands 14 1/2".
 
Best example of this potter's work that I have ever seen.  
 
Exceptional Condition.  As made.  No damage of any kind.  A 4" drying/firing line inside the right front with a faint 1" line outside in the making (closeups).
