Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Tooled Rim with Lip Inside for a Lid, Three Freehand Cobalt Stripes at the Top and One at the Bottom Framing the Company Advertising Surrounding a Floral. The four stripes are varied, with three straight and one wavy. The stencil is complete and crisp and the cobalt rich and dark. Strong contrast and exceptional visual appeal.
Excellent Condition. A flat 1/4" flake on the rim. That's it! No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 1/2" vertical drying line at the base on the back in the making as shown.
