Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare Stoneware Cuspidor Spittoon whose decoration indicates that it was made by J. Swank & Co., Johnstown, PA.
Jacob Swank ran the family pottery in Johnstown in the 1860s (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 100-102).
This beauty features a Tooled Rim and Base, Eight Upright Leaves Around the Outside, and Three Tulips Forming a Pinwheel on the Top. Measures 3 1/2" tall and 7" wide.
Good Condition. Minor nibbles around the top edge, restoration for a 3 1/4" spot on the top edge (closeup 1), and a 1 1/2" vertical hairline on the bottom of the left side that wraps under 2 1/4" (closeup 2).
