Coming to you from Doc's  Crocks  is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Ovoid Jug from the late 18th century.  

 

It is attributed to Captain James Morgan of Cheesequake,  New Jersey.  Morgan was an early American potter, making pottery in the late 18th century. See M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, pp. 33-38. 

 

This beauty features a Small 1/2 Gallon Size, Ovoid Shape, Reeded Spout, and Double Watchspring Decoration Framed by Wavy Stripes.  Stands 9 1/2" tall.  Comes with an old form-fitting carved wooden stopper.

 

Good Condition.  A few minor flakes on the spout, a very faint 3" hairline from the rim on the left side by the handle (closeup), a 3/4" chip on the back below the handle, and two chips on the base (1/4", 3/4").  No cracks, stains,  or restoration.
