Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Blue and White Spongeware Barrel.
It was made and stamped on the bottom by "The Robinson Merrill Pottery Co., Akron, O." This company was in business from 1900-1902.
This beauty is Formed as a Barrel with Staves and 6 hoops with Rivet Closures. Fancy Moldiing around the spigot opening. Cobalt Sponging throughout. Stands 15 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1" ping on the top of the right side (closeup 1), and a minor 1/4" chip under the frame of the spigot opening. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A dime-size kiln touch on the left side and a dime-size piece of adhered clay on the right side (closeup 2) in the making.
