Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Pitcher.
This is the work of Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Tall Neck with Squared Rim and Pinched Spout, Bulbous Body with Squared Footer and Applied Handle, and Brushed Cobalt Decoration. The decoration includes three leaves hanging from the rim, a tall tulip up the front, and cobalt accents at the handle terminals. All the decoration is executed in dark cobalt. Stands 9" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/8" nibble on the front bottom and a faint 1" surface line on the underside below it. No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
