Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped for the merchant, "Lewis Curtis, Newburgh, N.Y."
 
The decoration indicates that Curtis had this jar made in Bennington, Vermont by Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
 
This beauty features the Merchant Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Brushed Cobalt Stylized Floral. The decoration is executed with bold and shiny cobalt. Stands 13" tall.
 
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1" chip on the bottom edge in the back.  That's it!  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Exceptionally clean glaze.
