Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 1/2 Gallon Jug made for "J & Bros., Newark, N.J." (another jug on line makes the first letter a J)
It was made and stamped by the "Union Pottery, Newark, N.J., J. Zipf, Prop'r." J. Zipf ran the Union Pottery in Newark, N.J. from 1877 to 1906 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 82).
This beauty features the Unusual 4 1/2 Gallon Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Two Lines of Large Script Advertising. Stands 17" tall.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1/4" flake at the spout, a 1/2" chip on the back bottom, a 2" chip on the underside at the edge on the right side, and a couple small stains. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A stone ping on the left side in the making.
