Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Large 4 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).
This beauty features a Large Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Huge Brushed Cobalt Chrysanthemum with 10 Leaves, Two Buds, and a Ginomous Blossom with Petals! Bright and Shiny Cobalt throughout the Decoration. Stands 17" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some scattered staining from use. That's it! No post-production chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A 2" chip on top of the left side of the spout in the making, and some scattered bubbling in the cobalt that is also in the making.
