Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this masterwork 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by the "Beaumont Pottery, York, Maine."

It is the work of Jerry Beaumont who inscribed his cross and the date of 1986 on the bottom.  In my humble opinion, Mr. Beaumont has been and continues to be one of the best contemporary potters in America today.  His work from York, Maine was some of his finest.

This piece is also initialed "DF" for Diana Friebely currently known as Diana Card, the folk artist.  She created the Folk Art decoration on this jug

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Detailed Village Scene.  On the left is a school house with flag flying with incised stars above, bell hanging from the front, and a tree with swing and a teeter-totter in the yard.  In the middle is a small house.  To the right is a church with fenced graveyard and tree around the side and back.  Stands 10" tall.

What really strikes me is that Friebely's decorating technique is virtually identical to that on a West Troy Pottery 20 gallon Barrel that recently sold for $120,000.  The next to the last picture above is of the front of that piece.

Comes from an extensive Massachusetts collection whose owner had personal ties to both the potter and the artist.  She gave me the privilege of buying this and many other Beaumont items (including the sign from the York, Maine pottery).

Exceptional Condition.  As made.  No damage of  any kind.
