Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Jar whose form and decoration indicate that it was made by Samuel Irvine of Newville, Pennsylvania.
Irvine bought the pottery of Henry Zigler in 1865 and made pottery until about 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 44-45).
This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Tooled Rim and Neck, Gray Salt Glaze, and a Brushed Cobalt Triple Tulip. The tulips have 14 leaves and 3 blossoms with 4 petals each. Stands 14" tall.
Very Good Condition. Scattered glaze flakes inside at the bottom, two chips (1/4", 7/8") and minor nibbles on the outside of the rim, a 1/2" chip on the left handle, and glaze wear from use. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
