Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Exquisitely Molded Butter Crock by the Whites Pottery of Utica, New York featuring a Stag Hunt.
Made between 1890 and 1907 when Whites made its fabulous molded stoneware, this beauty features a Two Hunters with their Trophy Stag on One Side and Two Stags Who Escaped on the Other. Detailed trees and grass provide the background. The lid repeats the grass background along with four additional stags. The base measures 4 3/4" tall and 7 3/4" wide.
There are six sizes to this series: 1 to 6 pound. This is the No. 3 which is difficult to find, and this one even has very sharp details and mold lines.
Excellent Condition. The base is as made. Some fine bubbles in the glaze on the stag side in the making. The lid has a 3/4" chip on the seating ring on the underside (3 o'clock in the picture). Otherwise, as made. Some fiine bubbles in the glaze on one stag.
