    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this super 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "O. L. and A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."

     

    This is the mark of Orrin and Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).

     

    This beauty sports the Preserve Jar Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Folky Cobalt Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral features Plentiful Dotted Leaves at the Bottom Moving in from the Left Side from which a Circular Blossom with Center Swirl and 13 Petals Emerges in the Top Center.  A beauty!  Stands 10 5/8" tall.  

     

    Good Condition.  Even wear and chippage around the inner lid seating ring, small chips along the handle fronts, a faint 4" surface craze line under the left handle, and a hairline below the right handle to the base that wraps under 5" (closeup).  No outer rim or base chips, stains, or restoration.
