Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this super 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "O. L. and A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."
This is the mark of Orrin and Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).
This beauty sports the Preserve Jar Form, Pottery Stamp on the Shoulder, and a Folky Cobalt Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral features Two Striped Leaves and a Circular Blossom with Four Dotted Circles and Center Swirl and 16 Petals Around the Outside. 45 Dots in all! Stands 12 1/4" tall.
Good Condition. Even wear and chippage around the inner lid seating ring, two 1/4" chips under the left handle, some small glaze chips near the bottom of the right side, and staining from use. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
