Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "N. A. White and Son, Utica, N.Y."

This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware , pp. 69-70).

Dating about 1870, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp, and a Paddletail Bird on an Orchid Branch. This is one of White's signature decorations and a perennial favorite with collectors. An abundance of rich cobalt blue.  The bird is 6" from the tip of his beak to the tip of his tail.  The branch has numerous leaves at the top.  Measures 9" tall and 10 1/2" wide across the top.

Good Condition.  Five small chips (1/4" or less), and a 1" narrow ping inside the rim, minor nibbles around the rim with a 1/2" chip above the left handle and 1 1/2" chip above the right handle, a half dozen glaze chips on the right side at the bottom, and some staining from use.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
