Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "L. H. Worbs."
This is the stamp of Laban H. Worbs who potted in Newport, Ohio around the 1840's (F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, p. 107). It is an uncommon mark.
This example comes most recently from the Treichler collection.
Made around 1840, this jar has an Early Ovoid Form with the Impressed Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash. Comes with a lid that may be the original. Stands 11 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Three chips on the rim (1/4" to 3/4"), and some glaze wear and staining from use. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The lid has two narrow chips at the top edge (1/2", 3/4"). No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
