    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."

     

    This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery under this stamp and ran it from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).

     

    This beauty sports a Semi-Squared Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Freehand Capacity Number "2" within an Elaborate Wreath Decoration.  The wreath is executed with a slip cup in bright cobalt blue.  Measures 9" tall and 10" wide across the top.  

     

    Good Condition.  A 1/4" flake on the rim, a 2 1/2" line from the rim in the back not seen inside (closeup), and staining from use.   No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
