Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made in "North Bay."

This is the mark of John C. Waelde who ran the pottery in North Bay, New York from 1851 to 1875 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Bird on a Branch Decoration.  The bird is created with a stencil and the branch with a sponge.  Waelde is perhaps the only potter to decoration with this interesting combination of methods.  This is one reason that his stoneware is so popular.  Stands 11" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 1/4" chip back by the handle and some scattered light staining.  That's it!  No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
