    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Humiston & Warner, South Amboy." 

     

    This is the work of Horace Humiston and William Warner who worked together around 1830-1833 in South Amboy, New Jersey (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 79).  

     

    This beauty features an Early Ovoid Shape, Slightly Flared Rim, Combed Shoulder, Applied Handles, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip Decoration.  Stands 11 5/8" tall. 

     

    Good Condition.  Three small chips on the inner lid seating ring (1/4" to 1/8"),  three 1/2" chips inside the rim, a 3/4" chip on top of the rim in the back, three small 1/4" chips outside the rim, and a surface craze X on the front near the bottom (closeup).  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Some vertical firing lines on the base in the making.
