Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Churn made and stamped by "G. Baird."
This is the mark of George Baird who made pottery in Springfield Township, Ohio in the mid-19th century. He was married to the daughter of Fitch Purdy of the Purdy family of potters. (Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, pp. 26-27).
It comes most recently from the Treichler collection.
Dating the the mid-19th century, this beauty features the Churn Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash on One Side, and a Quadruple Brushed Cobalt Floral on the Other. The floral has base leaves and four different types of blossoms. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Shallow chipping inside the rim, a 1/2" chip on one handle, and some staining from use. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
