Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Stoneware Canteen made for "F. & S. Wines."
F. & S. Wines had this made by the Whites Pottery of Utica, N.Y. between 1890 and 1907 when Whites made molded pottery.
This beauty features a Shield Hosting the Company Monogram with "Wines" below, and Leaves around the Handle Holders. All the decoration is executed with dark cobalt. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
You can see similar examples in Christopher Bensch, The Blue and the Gray: Oneida County Stoneware, p. 26.
Very Good Condition. A flat 3/8" flake on the face of the right handle holder, a faint glaze-craze Y on the back, and chipping to the bottom of two feet. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Leans slightly forward in the making.
