Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 6 Gallon Stoneware Crock with Parrot on a Double Plume made and stamped by "Frank B. Norton & Co., Worcester, Mass."

This is the mark of Frank Norton and Frederick Hancock who operated the pottery in Worcester using this stamp from 1858-1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).

This beauty features an Unusually Large Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Large Parrot on a Double Dotted Plume Decoration.  This was one of Norton's signature decorations and is typically found with gorgeous cobalt like this crock exhibits.  This larger size crock allows the parrot to be 10" tall!  The plumes are even dotted!  Measures 13" tall and 14" across the top.

Excellent Condition.  Some residual water glass staining inside.  That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, outer stains, or restoration.  A surface drying/firing line 1" up from the base a 1/4 of the way around in the making (closeup 1) and a 1/4" clay pocket on one leaf in the making (closeup 2).
