Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug stamped "Corlears Hook".
This is the work of Thomas Commeraw of Corlears Hook. He was the first African-American Pottery Owner and worked In New York City from 1797 to 1819. See the brilliant book by A. Brandt Zipp, Commeraw's Stoneware: The Life and Work of the First African-American Pottery Owner.
This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Reeded Spout, Two Incised "Clam Shells" with Cobalt Fill, and the Pottery Stamp "Corlears Hook." Stands 12" tall.
Good Condition. A 3/8" chip on the bottom edge, and a circular line around the left side that I do not see inside. Is wider at the top than the bottom (closeup). No spout chips, stains, or restoration. A film of molasses inside at the bottom.
