Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this beautiful 5 Gallon Jar made by "C. L. Williams & Co., Successors to R. T. Williams, Manufacturers of Stoneware Ware, New Geneva, PA."
Th is is the work of C. L. Williams who worked in New Geneva from 1896-1898 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp 168-69).
From the top down this beauty features a straight stripe under the rim, a squiggle stripe at the shoulder, the company stencil in its more elaborate form with history attached, a freehand capacity number framed by dashes and straight stripe at the bottom. Stands 15 3/4" tall.
Good Condition. A 3/8" chip inside the rim, a 2 1/2" vertical surface craze line from the shoulder to the company name (closeup), and a crack on the right side from the handle to the base. No outer rim or base chips, stains, or restoration.
A handsome Pennsylvania jar made by one of the last potters of New Geneva.
