Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Crock from the Midwest.  
 
Dating to the late 19th century, this beauty features a "5" Capacity Number Encircled with a Wreath with Array of Mounted Circular, Crescent and Diamond Shapes, and an Eagle Holding a Banner in its Beak that Reads, "E. Pluribus Unum" ("Out of many, one"), the motto of the United States (some letters missing).   Many of these are weakly stencilled, but this one has a very crisp stencil.  Measures 12 3/4" tall and 12" wide across the top.  
 
Good Condition.  Wear and two chips around the rim (1/2", 3/4") and some flakes around the base;  a 1/2" chip under the left handle and heavy chipping under the right handle; two hairlines from the rim (3 1/2" behind the left handle -closeup 1 and 2 1/2" above the right handle- closeup 2); and a 2 1/2" hairline at the base that wraps under 3"- closeup 3).  No outer rim or base chips, stains, or restoration.
