Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 6 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "S. Hart, Fulton."
This is the stamp of Samuel Hart who potted in Fulton, New York with this stamp from 1840-1876 (see William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 74-75).
This beauty features a Semi-Squared Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number, and Pair of Love Birds. This was a signature decoration for this potter. These birds are especially large and well-drawn with dotted breasts. Measures 11 1/2" tall and 12" wide across the top.
Fair to Good Condition. Three lines from the rim- sealed crack top to bottom to the left of the decoration (closeup), sealed cracks from the rim to near the bottom on the right side as shown, and a 3" hairline on the back as shown. Some staining from use. No chips.
