Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "S. Hart, Fulton."
This is the stamp of Samuel Hart who potted in Fulton, New York with this stamp from 1840-1876 (see William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 74-75).
This beauty features a Squatty Plump Form, Tooled Shoulder, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number Riding a Tornado, and a Pair of Love Birds with Dotted Breasts. The love birds were a signature decoration for this potter. These birds are especially large and well-drawn. Measures 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Three minor chips on the spout (1/8" to 1/4") and small wear spots around the middle. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A stone ping on the spout and four on the left side in the making.
