Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic Staffordshire Blue and Red Spongeware Handleless Cup and Saucer,
 
Circa 1840, this beauty features a Careful Interplay of Blue and Red Sponging.  On the cup, the blue alternates up and down across the red background.  On the saucer the blue alternates across the red almost like rainbow spatterware, with an additioal blue and red dot in the middle.   The cup measures 2 1/2" tall and 3 3/4" wide.  The saucer measures 1 1/4" tall and 5 3/4" wide.  
 
Excellent Condition.  Both pieces are as made, with only a two adjacent pinhead-size nibbles on the bottom of the footer of the cup (8 o'clock in the photo).  Exceptionally clean. 
 
At the time of this listing, I have a matching cup and saucer that is also in excellent condition.
