Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 1 Gallon Stoneware Crock attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).

Dating about 1850, this beauty features a Crock Form that is unusual for Remmey Stoneware.  It sports a small 1 gallon size, squared rim, applied handles, and bold cobalt decoration.  Each side boasts two florals poised on top of a large leaf typical of Henry Remmey decoration.  Ample decoration around each handle as well.  Measures 8 1/4" tall and 7" wide across the top.

Very Good Condition.  Several surface age lines, but only two actual hairlines where the lines meet on both sides: one by a handle (closeup) and a Y-shaped one on the bottom.  No chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.

I don't recall ever seeing a Henry Remmey in this form.  Typically all jars.  And this one is a knockout on cobalt too.  Comes from a California estate.
