Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar with a Phenomenal Tulip Garland.

The jar's form and decoration make a very certain attribution to David Parr who made stoneware in Baltimore, Maryland from 1815 to 1855 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 98).

This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Finely Tooled Rim with Groove for Tying Over a Cloth or Paper Cover, and a Brushed Cobalt Garland of Leaves and Eight Tulips.  The garland wraps all the way around the jar and fill most of the "canvas."  The decorator did not skimp on the cobalt-- it is rich, shiny, and generouslly applied.  The light gray glaze presents the decoration in fine style.  Stands 9 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.   An 1/8" chip on one handle, 1/4" chip on the side, and some modest wear to the surface.  That's it!  No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.

This may be the finest Parr 1 gallon I have ever had to sell.  Comes from an estate in California.
