Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and White Spongeware Teapot with Original Lid.
Dating to the late 19th century, this beauty features a bulbous form with graceful spout and handle, and original flat lid with round knob. Nicely patterned and dark sponging all around. Measures 5" tall and 9" from the tip of the spout to the tip of the handle.
This spongeware teapot is discussed in Taylor and Lowrance, Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware , p. 93.
Good Condition. The base has a chip on the bottom tip of the spout (closeup 1). No other chips, or any hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 1/4" straw void on one side in the making. The lid has a 1/4" chip and small rust stain on the top edge, and a Y hairline inside that shows 1/2" outside (closeup 2).
