Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Yellow Ware Resting Lion Window Stop.
This window rest was used around 1810-1830 to hold windows open. The flat back has a little molded tread on it where the window rested. Few have survived the slamming down of the window and the falling on the floor or out the window when the window was raised.

A similiar piece is found in Lisa McAllister, Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware, Book II, p. 17.
