Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Yellow Ware Window Stop in the Form of a Recumbant Lion.
This window stop was used around 1810-1830 to hold windows open. The flat backside has a little molded tread on it where the window rested. Few have survived the slamming down of the window and the falling on the floor or out the window when the window was raised.
This beauty has a Confident and Beguiling Face with Well-Apportioned Mane. It rests on a footed base. Measures 5" tall, 4" wide and 4" deep.
A similiar piece is found in Lisa McAllister, Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware Book 2, p. 17.
Excellent Condition. A couple pinhead-size nibbles on the front, and some glaze wear on the nose, cheeks, and front of the base. No other chips or any hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
