Coming to you from Doc's Crocks, is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "Whites Utica."
This is a mark of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the company stamp with cobalt wash and a Little Birdie with Dotted Breast and Long Feathers Walking Along on the Ground. Not a typical Whites decoration. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
I have been told that the form is a lunchbox. There once was a fit-over lid with some kind of enclosure mechanism that attached to the hole at the top of each handle.
Excellent Condition. Two small chips on the right handle (1/8", 1/4"). That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Exceptionally clean. A shallow 3" drying line inside in the making.
